What do we do with all the space?

As Gen Z steps into the world of architecture, the possibilities for how they will use all the open space are bound to be exciting and innovative. They'll aim to create buildings that not only serve their purpose but also improve the surrounding environment, like incorporating vertical gardens or green roofs into urban areas, making nature part of the everyday experience.

Gen Z is also more connected than ever through technology, and they’ll likely use this to reshape architectural designs. Imagine buildings that aren’t just static, but adapt to their surroundings or the needs of the people inside. We could see the rise of smart buildings with features like self-adjusting windows or walls that change based on the weather or time of day. As virtual reality and augmented reality become even more advanced, Gen Z could merge these technologies into design processes, allowing clients to walk through their future homes or offices before construction even begins.

On top of this, Gen Z is all about inclusivity and diversity, and that will reflect in their approach to architecture. They’ll push for spaces that cater to a wide range of needs, from accessibility to cultural representation. Gen Z architects could also design public spaces that encourage social interaction, with gathering areas that allow people of all backgrounds to feel welcomed. Whether it’s creating more affordable housing or ensuring that spaces are designed for people with disabilities, this generation will focus on making architecture that benefits everyone.

Gen Z is both a creative and artistic generation, unafraid to break away from traditional design rules. We could see a shift from conventional skyscrapers and cookie-cutter apartment complexes to more experimental, bold structures.
